String Quartetettes

Story

My String Quartetettes are short little string quartets that either stand alone or can be played in sequence. Ideal program fillers or 'musical sorbets' that can be placed between other content to refresh the ear or simply make up timings by short increments. Press the triangle play button for each to hear them. Quartetette No. 0.5 is the shortest of the collection, just 30 seconds long. Here is a pdf of the parts -  parts__String_Quartetette_No_0.pdf (right click to download) and the full score - String_Quartetette_No_0_pt_5.pdf

Story

I started writing these mini string quartets when I acquired a Surface tablet running the app 'Staffpad'. I write them on the staffpad in longhand then transfer them to my DAW where I tweak them and render them out using Vienna Instruments solo strings. This is No 1 - another lively, major key sounding quartetette at 134 bpm. Here are the pdf's - all parts - Parts_String_Quartetette_No_1.pdf and full score String_Quartetette_No_1.pdf

Story

Quartetette No 3 has a dainty start then grows a bit more enigmatic. It is in 6/4 and works well at 93bpm. You can download all of these scores for free and use them for any purpose, all you need to do is credit me as the composer and if you wish you can let me know about any performances you use them for, but that's not obligatory. If you really want to give me money then I won't say no, just buy one of my Digitiphonies at iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby or wherever. Here are the pdfs for No. 3 - all parts - Parts_String_Quartetette_No_2.pdf and full score - String_Quartetette_No_2.pdf

Story

Quartetette No 4 is slow - 71 bpm - but also in 5/4 so slightly 'unlikely' and pensive, as if pining for a love that never was, but could have been. Here is the full score - Full_score_String_Quartetette_No_4.pdf - and the 4 parts - Parts_String_Quartetette_No_4.pdf

Story

Quartetette No 5 begins played with a playful pizzicato in 6/8, 60 bpm crotchets or if counting quavers 120 bpm. Did I say these scores are free to download ?! Use as you like, I envisage these little quartets making ideal programme fillers when you need an extra few minutes or a little musical sorbet/ear refresher between numbers. Oh alright, if you really want to contribute to my skint composer lifestyle, go buy a Digitiphony or two from iTunes/CD Baby/Amazon and I will probably see a few cents from it one day. But we all know it's not about the money, we just can't help making music can we ? So, that's the Quartetettes I have written so far, I will upload more as and when I write them. I really should get back to writing Digitiphony 6 now. Digitiphonies are what I am supposed to be spending the rest of my life on after all. Oh yeah, the scores for No. 5... here you go - full score - Full_score_String_Quartetette_No_5.pdf - and the parts - Parts_String_Quartetette_No_5.pdf

Story

Lively and slightly obtuse this Quartetette is in 4/4 at 116bpm. The four parts at times feel like they are trying to run away from each other, only to bunch together sporadically for comfort. A bit like humans. Here is the full score - Full_score_String_Quartetette_No_6.pdf - and the parts - Parts__String_Quartetette_No_6.pdf

Story

String Quartetette No. 7 is a frantic, mouthy little number in various tempos. Like an angry child that demands attention,  it at first screams loudly, then when it gets no reaction whimpers forlornly, only to break down into incoherent spatters of emotion when that too fails to provoke the overtired, overworked parent.
